It’s well known that cosmetic surgery is on the rise, and men are no exception to this rule. More and more men in today’s world are finding it necessary to explore and take advantage of plastic surgery to “stay competitive.”

Just as women have worried endlessly about their looks for years and years, men are now being sucked into the same challenge of keeping a younger look and staying attractive longer. This seems to indicate that a subtle shift in gender roles is beginning to take place in our society, with men beginning to become more self conscious about their bodies and attracting the desiring gaze. Women, of course, have put their appearance at the top of the list for centuries, what with make-up, jewelry, etc.

A recent article published by the Cosmetic News Portal notes that many women feel that their male partner’s appearance is very important to them. While the survey taken shows that many women are still indifferent, the number of women who feel that plastic surgery might be an option for their male partners is on the rise.

More importantly, 83% of women find a particular celebrity more attractive than their partner, and many of these women actually attempt to make their partners look more like these celebrity ideals through subtle changes in dress and appearance.

A surprisingly large number of women, 34 percent, say they wouldn’t mind if their partner had plastic surgery. Almost half of the women polled said that they worry more about their partner’s appearance when they go out on the town than their own.

Another recent article, published in American Health and Beauty, notes that male business executives are starting to find it necessary to get plastic surgery in order to keep up their appearance in the competitive environment of the business world. So not only are women becoming increasingly concerned about the attractiveness of their men, but men themselves are becoming more self-conscious.

Looking good can help win people over regardless if the person is a man or woman. And winning people over plays a role both in the professional world, and on a personal level – such as in attracting a desirable mate, for example. Why should it be a surprise that male plastic surgery is on the rise? In reality, in this material world, it was only a matter of time.
