
Pinot’s Palette
The first stop on today’s tour is Pinot’s Palette, a delightful art class studio in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston. This location has regular classes, but they also allow the studio to be rented out for parties and private classes at a very reasonable price.
The real kicker is that anyone who comes is encouraged to bring a bottle of wine to share with their date. That way any non-artists can drink away some of their self-consciousness, and any more experienced painters can also enjoy themselves.
The whole idea with a date like this is to stretch your boundaries a little bit, and have fun doing something out of the ordinary. You might be perfectly comfortable here, or it might be a little out of your comfort zone. The Discovery Green
One of the best parks in Houston, The Discovery Green is a sprawl of beautiful grass and manicured lawns, all of it dotted with sculpture and fountains from that were commissioned by the city of Houston.
During the day, this would be a great place to kick back and listen to music, which is often played on various stages in the park. Artwork also shapes the entire area, with everything from the Mist Tree to the Listening Vessels. These interactive pieces break the mold of traditional artwork, and will give you and your date something unusual to play with during your afternoon together.
The Listening Vessels are two stone sculptures positioned about 70 feet apart. Their concave interiors focus sound in a way that allows a speaker to be heard inside the other vessel, even if he or she is speaking very softly.
The Mist Tree can provide both beautiful decoration and an adventurous game for those who don’t mind getting a little wet. The perimeter of the fountain has a sprinkle of rain, but inside is a pure cloud of mist that’s made to be pleasurable oasis from the heat of Houston, Texas.
