Whether you’re grabbing a coffee at a hip coffee joint or taking in the local art scene, you’ve got plenty of options to make your date interesting.

Filter Coffeehouse and Espresso Bar: Coffee purists, take note. Filter Coffeehouse and Espresso Bar is a small, unassuming shop tucked away on a side street in Dupont Circle. The coffeehouse offers superbly brewed, single-origin coffee, and is famous for its flat white. The flat white is the Aussie’s interpretation of the latte, utilizing microfoam poured over espresso. Filter also bans laptops, so it’s a great place to go for a delicious cup of joe and quiet conversation.

American Art Museum: After grabbing a bite at one of the many restaurants located in Penn Quarter, head over to the American Art Museum to check out it’s world famous collection of fine art. The museum conveniently shares space with the National Portrait Gallery, giving you more art bang for your buck. The museum is currently offering a retrospective on Korean-born artist Nam June Paik, who is renowned for his multimedia art installations. But the exhibit is only going until August 11th, so get while the getting is good.

Ben’s Chili Bowl: When you think “date food,” chili probably doesn’t come to mind. But the scrumptious chili found at Ben’s Chili Bowl will make you change your mind. Located on U Street in a renovated silent movie house, the restaurant offers the greatest chili in the state. After picking out what delicious dish you want to dig into, slip into one of the booths and enjoy some old school R&B from the jukebox.
