Erection problems aren’t just a problem for the old and gray. The affliction is becoming increasingly common amongst younger men, too. But while many young men would never believe that their erection could stop working like it used to, it’s true.

The National Institutes of Health estimates that erection problems strikes as many as 30 million men in the United States. While the prevalence of erection problems does increase, experts report that the incidence of erection problems amongst young men has grown. A whopping 5% of men suffering from erection problems were between 20 and 39.

Experts attribute this rising number to a number of factors. Young men are more likely to smoke, which can lead to erection problems. Younger men also tend to drink more, which can difficulties achieving an erection. Obesity is also a contributing factor for erection problems, and experts report that waistlines are ballooning amongst younger men.

Experts also say that younger men are more susceptible to stress, whether it be at work or in their personal lives. Stress can lead to mental hang-ups, which can make it difficult to achieve an erection.

In fact, mental problems are believed to one of the biggest causes of erection problems amongst young men. Most men suffering from the affliction blamed their problem on depression, stress, or “performance jitters,” which is when a man stresses about performing well in bed so hard that he ultimately can’t perform at all.

With proper treatment, these young men, like any man afflicted with erection problems, can overcome their problem and go on to leave healthy, full lives. But experts stress that erection problems aren’t just a problem amongst older men anymore. This problem can afflict men of all ages.
