For such a common affliction, erectile problems aren’t generally openly discussed. Men talk about their struggles to achieve an erection in hushed voices, as if the act of talking about it will make the problem worse. But erection problems are becoming increasingly common, and it deserves to be talked about in an open, honest manner.
A recent study determined that one out of every four men under 40 suffers from erectile issues. That number climbs as men grow older, too. The study, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, revealed that 26 percent of men under 40 struggled with erectile problems. Additionally, it was found that erectile problems are becoming increasingly prevalent in younger men too, with a whopping 48.8 percent of young men reporting experiencing erectile problems.
While the common misconception was that erectile problems are just an unfortunate part of growing old, that’s not quite true. Erectile problems can strike at any time and, as the study found, can affect men of all ages. The study found that men under 40 tended to attribute their erectile problems to mental hang-ups or as a result of being overweight. Conversely, younger men tended to blame heavy smoking, drinking, and illicit drug usage for their inability to achieve an erection.
So, as this study has proven, erectile problems aren’t an old man’s problem; it’s a problem that afflicts all men. The researchers behind the study recommended healthy living and saying “no” to all forms of overindulgence as sure fire ways to avoid erectile problems. For men who already suffer from the ailment, they are advised to seek medical advice and to take medication.
