people who were having sex two to three times in a month were 14% less likely to report a high level of happiness if they thought their friends were having sex weekly.
If you’re happy and you know it … you’re probably getting more action than your friends.

So says a new study from the University of Colorado Boulder, which found that other people’s sex lives impact our sense of well-being.

The Research on Happiness, Perception and Frequency of Sex

University of Colorado Boulder associate professor of sociology Tim Wadsworth looked at the data from a national survey and discovered that not only was more sex associated with more happiness, but also, people who THOUGHT they were having more sex than their peers were happier than those who thought they weren’t.

Participants in the survey had been asked whether they were “very happy, pretty happy or not too happy.” The research included responses from 15,386 people and found that those who had sex at least two or three times in one month were happier than those who didn’t have sex at all in the previous year.

On one hand, Wadsworth found that, compared to people who had no sex in the past 12 months, those who had sex once a week were 44% more likely to be happier. Likewise, those who had sex two to three times in a week were 55% more likely to be happier.

However, even people who were having sex two to three times in a month were 14% less likely to report a high level of happiness if they thought their friends were having sex weekly.

Wadsworth’s research, “Sex and the Pursuit of Happiness: How Other People’s Sex Lives are Related to Our Sense of Well-Being,” was published in Social Indicators Research.

The Role of Erectile Dysfunction on Happiness and Frequency of Sex

Of course, how frequently you have sex is dependent on a lot of factors. Untreated erectile dysfunction, for example, can not only hinder sexual intercourse at the time, but also add to anxiety that affects the potential for future sexual encounters.

Many men find that erectile dysfunction drugs, such as Cialis, can be enough to get them back in the saddle. And those men willing to talk about sexual dysfunction with their doctor in order to get a prescription for Cialis may very well be the people who are having sex more than you are.
