Medical teams in Egypt and Australia have found a connection between smartphones and erectile dysfunction.
The study used a small group of men, and while the connection was made, researchers say more studies are needed to make a conclusive finding.
However, the study does raise concern about cell phones and their connection to your health.
More about the study
Researchers worked with 30 men, 20 of them complained of ED symptoms and 10 didn’t. The men were all similar in physicality, like height, weight, and health habits like non-smoking and had normal testosterone levels.
The men who had erectile dysfunction carried around their phone for an average of 4.4 hours, while those without ED only carried it for 1.8 hours.
The study, which was published in the Central European Journal of Urology, suggests that men who carry their phone longer while it’s turned on have a higher likelihood of developing erectile dysfunction.
How a cell phone could cause ED
Are you wondering how a cell phone can cause problems with your manhood? You’re not alone. Researchers aren’t quite sure how a cell phone causes erectile dysfunction, although they do have two theories. One cause could be the electromagnetic radiation given off by all smartphones, the other cause could be the heat generated by the phone while it’s in your pant’s pocket.
The takeaway
Given our dependency on cell phones, it’s unlikely that this small study will cause anyone to stop using their phones altogether. However, there are small steps you can take to protect yourself (and your penis) just in case.
Keep your phone out of your pant’s pocket as much as possible. Put it on a table or your desk at work when you’re not on the go. At night, don’t sleep with the phone near you. Keep it on a nightstand, turned off while charging.
