As an expert commentator, host or clinician, Dr. Ramani Durvasula brings impeccable academic credentials, as well as over 15 years of teaching, clinical, and research experience.  After receiving her doctorate in clinical psychology from UCLA, and completing her clinical internship at the renowned UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, Dr. Durvasula is currently Professor of Psychology at California State University Los Angeles and a licensed clinical psychologist.  She is also the Director of the Psychological Clinic and of Clinical Training at California State University, Los Angeles. She has published over 40 scientific articles and book chapters, and has lectured around the world on a variety of topics related to psychology, health, and wellness. California State University, Los Angeles is one of the most ethnically diverse campuses in the U.S., and her experience working with diverse groups of students has uniquely positioned her to connect with a wide and diverse viewership.

Dr. Durvasula’s research has been focused broadly in the area of health psychology – which examines the nexus of psychology, health and disease.  She brings experience working with mental health and cancer, HIV, aging, and pregnancy.  She has been funded by NIH for her research on HIV/AIDS, with a specific focus on mental health in persons with HIV.  As such, Dr. Durvasula brings a wide ranging expertise from both a research and clinical perspective on sex and drugs, which are often the issues of greatest interest to most audiences. She is an expert diagnostician, and brings expertise in a wide range of psychiatric disorders, particularly the personality disorders, a subgroup of disorders which have been a focus of her research.

Using her warmth, wit, charisma, and intellect, and drawing upon an extensive academic, pedagogical, and clinical dossier, Dr. Durvasula easily and credibly translates the technical world of academia into an engaging and provocative style that works with a wide variety of programming formats.
