The Telegraph reported that more than $22 million in bogus or illegal erectile dysfunction pills were seized in 2017 from organized gangs in Britain.
That’s a 980% increase over five years ago. The drugs were intercepted at ports and postal sorting facilities by UK Border Force officers, as well as at dealers’ homes. The fake erectile dysfunction pills could be very dangerous—even fatal.

Most of the unlicensed drugs that are seized in the UK come from India, including a pill and gel form of something called Kamagra, which isn’t licensed to be sold in the UK.
The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reported that although it shuts down more than 3,500 websites selling fake medicines each year, there is still a problem with erectile dysfunction pills because they’re being sold alongside drugs like ecstasy and cocaine, which both can cause erectile dysfunction. Of course, men purchasing these so-called erectile dysfunction drugs never know what they’re really buying.
Why there’s still a market
“Medicines purchased outside the regulated supply chain can be risky,” said an MHRA spokeswoman. “There is no guarantee the products will be authorized medicines and no guarantee they meet standards of quality and safety. They may contain dangerous ingredients with devastating consequences to your health. Criminals have no interest in your health and well-being; they are only concerned with making money.”
