FDA Uncovers Potential Deadly Ingredients in Herbal Sexual Enhancement Supplements
More than a dozen products shipped from abroad have been found to contain chemicals which are harmful to the human body. This is according to the Food and Drug Administration.
All the products found to have these toxic substances are for weight loss and sexual enhancement in both men and women. FDA found these products during one of their regular checkups for shipments from other countries.
The products in question are Maxx Easy, Power Spring Oral Liquid, Mang Luk Power Slim, Weili, SlimFix X, Ziyinzhuangyang, Ultimate Lean, Z Xiu Tang Beauty Face and Figure Capsule, Super Shangai, Libigirl, The Golden Root, Shangai Ultrax and Suoer Bull 6000. FDA has sent out notices to the public to avoid these drugs at all costs.
They claimed that drugs which enhance sexual performance contained sildenafil an active ingredient used in Viagra but had no indications on the packaging. This component reacts negatively with other drugs, which contain nitrates like heart disease drugs, high blood pressure drugs, and diabetes drugs. Using these medicines together with sildenafil leads to low blood pressure.
Another potentially harmful chemical found in some of the drugs was sibutramine which was banned since it was found to cause high blood pressure among users.
Phenolphthalein also discovered in some of the beauty products is a chemical believed to cause cancer among users.
Fluoxetine found in some of the drugs leads to most of its users becoming suicidal, and if used alongside aspirin it could result in bleeding of the intestines which is fatal.
In the cases named above, FDA confiscated the drugs and intended to destroy them.
FDA says that in the recent past, it has been quite a challenge to track down all the medications that contain harmful ingredients since they have flooded the market. Most of these drugs are from China and a few other countries. They did not disclose information about the spot checks.
