It can be difficult to tell if your habits are just normal healthy behaviors you frequently do or if they have become harmful and impulsive. A few ways to zero in on your behavior is to look at how long these habits have been in your life and if they are there because of a life altering event or simply because you enjoy doing them. If your habits leave you short of cash, down on your health or take away from your quality of life, chances are you’re headed for a crash.

Compulsive Spending?

It seems that society pushes us to compulsively purchase things to make us feel better. You always here how it’s a good idea to save cash for a rainy day or how it’s healthy to go splurge on clothes when you’re feeling down.

Those are unhealthy behaviors and really no different than gambling for a high. Be careful with your spending and make sure you’re doing it for the right reason. Trying to boost your mood by spending unnecessary money can set you up for disaster and before long you might find that you spend to make yourself feel better. Instead of spending to make yourself feel better by taking your mind off your problems try doing something low cost like going to see a movie or creating a photo album. Do whatever your heart desires but limit the amount of money you are willing to spend.

Binge Drinking is addictive.

We all generally like to have a drink when times are tough and also when times are to be celebrated. It’s up to you to make the call of what is healthy and what isn’t. If you find you’re in a rut of sadness and depression and drinking nightly is what makes you feel better you know deep down that it is making the problem you’re faced with more exaggerated and harder to handle. Try keeping a journal of what is upsetting you and come up with some healthy ways to solve the problems. Limit your drinking to a glass of wine or a beer after work. Becoming addicted to anything will only make your problems greater and your ability to handle them much less available.

Sleeping all the time?

When times are tough it is easy to just want to sleep it off and take away your reality for a bit. Sleep has many pros to it and can help clear your mind and freshen your spirit. When you find that you’re sleeping more than you are awake and you don’t seem to have the time or energy to fulfill your daily requirements that’s a good sign that you need to get out of bed and into the gym. Try motivating yourself by choosing one activity daily that you can do to boost your spirits and keep yourself from wanting to escape.
