Whether men admit it or not, some agonize over their looks just as much as women. While women splurge on make-up and anti-aging creams, men are willing to splurge on products that promise to stop hair loss. Thinning hair, receding hairline, baldness, whatever you want to call it, it’s a problem. Thousands of men turn to Propecia, an oral medication, to slow hair loss.

How it works

Propecia is taken to treat male pattern hair loss, it may take at least 3 months before you see any improvement because hair loss and growth happen slowly over time.

However, you should expect to see improvement during the first 12 months of your treatment. If you have taken Propecia for 12 months and have not noticed any improvement, further treatment probably will not help.  The medication will only slow hair loss while you are taking the medication.  As always, it’s best to consult your doctor before taking any medication.

What real Propecia users are saying

“I use this drug with Rogaine to maximize the effect. I also skip the pill every other day to save on the cost. It’s very expensive; however, I started using this after a hair transplant and it’s worth the investment,” one man commented on Web MD’s medication review page.

Another man wrote, “I have been on Propecia about 7 years and I think it really works. My hair actually got a little thicker and I don’t have the receding hairline that my older and younger brothers have.”

“Although I don’t have as much hair as in my 20s, Propecia has without a doubt slowed down the balding process, I know I am thinning, but slowly, my brother who is 4 years older and never took this drug is almost completely bald,” another user stated. “I would recommend it.”
