Some child-resistant caps on Triaminic and Theraflu products are being recalled. Children can take off these caps? Who-da-thunk-it. — Click to Tweet.

Novartis Consumer Health has recalled caps on their syrup medicines, Triaminic and Theraflu. Even with the tamper-resistant seals on, children are still able to get into the bottles.
However, the recall is being issued on products that were sold over a year ago, so the chances are slim that any of it is still being used or remains on sale. However, if anyone does have some still, they can answer the recall notice for a refund.
Easy-Open Consequences
Novartis estimates that over 97% of the product is off the market. Most of it has either been consumed, returned to Novartis, or quarantined at a Novartis warehouse. What they’ll do with it there remains to be seen.
However, 12 reports have been made to Novartis about children opening the bottles. Four of them ingested the product, and one had to receive medical attention.

As a precaution, some of the Canadian products are also being recalled.
Child-Resistant Caps
Perhaps all of this should serve as a reminder. Child-resistant caps are just that: resistant. They’ll slow a child down, but they won’t stop a child. That’s what parents are for.
