Chicago, Illinois is known as a haven for great live music, and I would suggest to anyone that they find a great band to see while they’re out on a date. But there’s more than the typical kind of fun to be had in Chicago, and we’re here to show you where to find it.

Violet Hour
First up is a bar with the attitude and decor of an old-fashioned speakeasy, which sets the perfect vibe for a night out in Chicago.

There’s no word better to describe this place than classy. First, there’s no “Violet Hour” neon sign above the door. Instead, you have to know where you’re going or have someone tell you. Once the doorman lets you in, you’ll find two luxurious curtains that separate the interior from the outside world.

Inside, you’ll find a unique, beautiful bar, the atmosphere of which is probably best illustrated by their “House Rules:”

  • No cell phone use inside lounge.
  • Proper attire requested.
  • Please, no baseball hats.
  • Sorry, no reservations.
  • No O-Bombs, no Jager-Bombs. No bombs of any kind.
  • No Budweiser. No light beer. No Grey Goose. No Cosmopolitans.
  • And finally, please do not bring anyone to The Violet Hour that you wouldn’t bring to your mother’s house for Sunday dinner.

This last rule, even more than the others, helps show exactly what kind of feel these owners are going for. This place could be the perfect location for a date, but you’ll want to take someone who really deserves it.

The design inside The Violet Hour is something to behold, with architecture from Thomas Schlesser. His “visual inspiration… was drawn from the pared down styles of the early 19th century English Georgian and French Directory.” The English club and French salon, they say, were the beginning of the modern venue for socializing and drinking.

Geja’s Cafe
Geja’s Cafe is another wonderful, one-of-a-kind offering from Chicago. This dim, deep red restaurant is known as “Chicago’s most romantic.” They offer fondue dining and live Classical and Flamenco guitar.

There are few things more romantic and alluring than the sounds of Flamenco guitar. Enjoying such beautiful music while tucked away at your private table for two and enjoying fondue with each other is the perfect way to have a wonderful night.
