Young pop stars like Miley Cyrus think that people over 40 don’t have sex. Obviously, that isn’t true. In fact, we can come up with at least 6 reasons why sex is actually more enjoyable after 40, or even after 50. Maybe you can think of some additional reasons? Let us know in the comment section.

1. People over 50 started the sexual revolution and have no regrets.

Before the sexual revolution, it felt like we were living in the Victorian era. Our generation popularized books that included sexual content. Now people can enjoy ultra racy stories like 50 Shades of Grey. People over 50 helped sex permanently escape from the confines of the bedroom. It started in 1967 with the popular musical Hair and eventually entered the movie theater with Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice in 1969. I’m sure we all remember the song that summed up the sexual revolution. As Stephen Stills would say, “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.”

2. We know that sex can extend your life (and make life worth living).

Older adults know that sex is good for your health and wellbeing. An active sex life can boost your immune system, improve your prostate health, and lead to better cardiovascular health. After all, sex is great exercise. It burns extra calories and helps fight stress. We think the benefits speak for themselves.

3. Sex can improve your relationship.

Frequent sex can help couples feel more connected and intimate. When you reach a certain age, you really understand how to please your partner. Many older couples aren’t afraid to experiment with fun sex toys. When you have a strong relationship, you can feel comfortable about trying new things and exploring your sexuality. Who says that sex can’t be even more interesting after 50? We think it can be.

4. Finally getting some time alone.

It can be hard to find time for sex when you’re always experiencing interruptions from crying babies or misbehaving teenagers. Once the kids leave the house, you and your partner can spend more quality time together. You’ll finally get the chance to be more spontaneous and romantic. No babysitter required.

5. There’s assistance when you need it.

In the past, older adults couldn’t have sex if they suffered from certain health conditions. Now people over 50 have access to a variety of medical treatments, erectile dysfunction medications, and lubricants that can enhance sexual function. With all the available treatment options, age is just a number for people in the older crowd. You and your partner can enjoy sex well into the golden years without having to hold back.

6. No more pregnancy concerns.

Younger people have to deal with pills, gels, creams, condoms, and other forms of birth control to prevent unwanted pregnancy. I’m sure you remember using it back in the day, so you know that birth control can sometimes take the fun out of sex. Fortunately, people over 50 don’t have to worry about that anymore. Older couples can enjoy spontaneous sex without the fear of unwanted pregnancy.
