Shockwave treatment, wave of the future?<\/strong>
\nDoctors in Israel are working on an alternative to Viagra known as shockwave therapy.\u00a0 While the name conjures up images of being electrocuted to some, doctors say the procedure is painless.\u00a0 This process uses low-frequency shockwaves to treat erection problems.\u00a0 Doctors describe it as an intense ultrasound and it\u2019s not going to be marketed as a temporary fix to sexual problems, but as a cure to them.\u00a0 Professor Yoram Vardi, a urologist at the Rambam Healthcare Campus in Haifa, Israel says the treatment shows tremendous promise for the future.<\/p>\n

\"\"Will it cut into Viagra\u2019s market?
\nVardi says treatment would be ideal for those that can\u2019t take Viagra, for example those plagued with heart disease or high blood pressure.\u00a0 He also sees the treatment as a tool for the 20-30 percent of men that Viagra doesn\u2019t work for.\u00a0 Therefore, he doesn\u2019t believe it will cut into Viagra\u2019s market.<\/p>\n

A look at the study<\/strong>
\nIn a study published last year in the European Journal of Urology, 20 middle-aged men suffering from loss of erection issues were treated with shockwave therapy, 18 of the volunteers had risk factors for heart disease.\u00a0 At the end of six months the men reported significant duration and strength or erections.<\/p>\n

While there is only one study that offers statistical data about this treatment, Vardi plans to continue his research.\u00a0 He estimates this technology will be available to the public within ten years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
