First-Ever Study Looks at ED in Teen Boys<\/figcaption><\/figure> Most people wouldn’t associate erectile dysfunction with teenage boys, but a new study shows it’s more common than you might think. <\/p>\n

When a teenager is struggling with erectile problems, it’s not always psychological and should be treated as a serious medical problem, according to the research.<\/p>\n

The study<\/b><\/p>\n

For the first time, researchers looked at erectile dysfunction in 25 teenage boys that ranged in age between 14-19. <\/p>\n

Some of the teens were having sex, others weren’t. Some noticed problems based on conversations they had with friends. The teenagers all sought medical attention for the problem.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The study found that half of the teenagers had blood flow problems, which caused ED, while the rest were dealing with psychological causes.<\/p>\n

For those with blood flow or blood vessel problems, hormone therapy or surgery was prescribed. For those with psychological problems, doctors prescribed ED medications like Viagra to help teens get an erection and regain their confidence. Most of the teens stopped using the medication within 12 months and were able to get and maintain erections on their own.<\/p>\n

A controversial topic<\/b><\/p>\n

While some believe treating ED in teenagers is controversial, Dr. John P. Mulhall, the study’s lead researcher, says treating sexual problems early helps men in the long run.<\/p>\n

Teens that are treated aren’t scared of seeking treatment because they know their problem was taken seriously and an answer was found.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Plus, if sexual problems continue into adulthood they could become chronic and take a toll on a man’s self esteem.\u00a0<\/p>\n
