With all the claims being made about Viagra these days, it’s sometimes hard to separate reality from hype. So we invited three men to sit down, chat openly, and field some questions about their erection problems and their real-life experiences with Viagra.<\/p>\n

Henry is a healthy 52-year-old who began experiencing some mild erectile dysfunction three years ago. He has been taking Viagra now for about two months.<\/p>\n

Ben is closer to 60 and began suffering from pronounced sexual dysfunction following a heart attack two years ago.<\/p>\n

The youngest of the three, Jeff, is 38. He claims he has recently experienced some difficulty getting erections suitable for intercourse. Not wanting to wait until things got worse, he talked with his doctor and is now taking Viagra occasionally to “boost his sex life.” All three men are married.<\/p>\n

Question: When did you first begin to think you might want to try Viagra?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ben: <\/strong>Actually, my doctor recommended that I try Viagra. Even though I had noticed some erection problems before my heart attack, after it, it was like . . . boom . . . lights out! So my doctor thought that Viagra would be worth a try.<\/p>\n

Henry: <\/strong>In my case, right before I turned 50 I began noticing that my erections weren’t as reliable as they used to be. For a while I rationalized that this was a “normal” part of aging, and that I shouldn’t mess with it. Finally, I said to myself. “Why should I take this lying down?” It took me a while to get the nerve up, but finally I got some Viagra and it’s been totally worth it, at least so far.<\/p>\n

Jeff: <\/strong>For me, sex with my wife is generally very good. However, maintaining consistent erections has been more challenging. So in order to make sure I keep the spice in our relationship,\u00a0and to go a little longer, get hard again sooner . . . that kind of thing, I thought Viagra would give me a little something extra since\u00a0I am getting older,\u00a0and my doctor agreed.<\/p>\n

Question: So . . . has the Viagra worked for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeff:\u00a0<\/strong>The Viagra certainly hasn’t changed my sex drive, which has always been pretty strong anyway. And I’m not sure if it’s improved my staying power, either. But Viagra has definitely helped me produce super-strong erections, and that includes rebounding pretty quickly with a second or even a third erection on occasion. Since I don’t have weak erections all the time, I just take Viagra once in a while.<\/p>\n

Ben: <\/strong>For me, it’s like the Viagra has given me a second chance at a sex life. For whatever reason, after I had a heart attack, it really seemed like I was out of the game. It was totally disheartening and depressing. The difference with the Viagra is amazing. I take it about 45 minutes before having sex and the erection comes almost on cue. Because I have a history of cardiovascular disease now, my doctor keeps a careful eye on my Viagra prescription, and he’s had to tweak the dosage a few times. But in general, Viagra has done wonders for my erection problems. My wife and I couldn’t be happier.<\/p>\n

Henry: <\/strong>My situation’s a lot like yours Ben, even though my loss of erections wasn’t caused by a heart attack or another illness. Viagra has definitely made my erections stronger and more reliable. It’s not that I can’t have sex without taking Viagra, but when I do I pretty much know what to expect. To me, it’s like the Viagra has helped turn back the clock by about 20 years. It’s made a huge difference. In fact, sometimes the Viagra erection seems almost unnaturally strong. But I’m sure not complaining.<\/p>\n

Question: What about side effects? Some people say Viagra’s gotten a bad rap with the various side effects that have been reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ben: <\/strong>I usually get a bit congested after taking Viagra, and sometimes I’ll get a little flushed. I’ve heard that Viagra can cause more serious side effects, but so far I haven’t experienced any of them.<\/p>\n

Jeff: <\/strong>Normally, I don’t get any noticeable side effects at all when I take Viagra. A couple times, I had a headache, actually.<\/p>\n

Henry: <\/strong>I get the flushing, too, when I take Viagra, but not always. Also, I’ll sometimes get a headache after taking it. It’s funny . . . I’ve gotten a bit conditioned to the point where when the headache comes, I know the Viagra’s working. So there’s almost a positive association with the headache. Anyway, these minor side effects have been well worth the effect that Viagra has had on my erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n

Question: So you’re all hooked on Viagra then, right?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jeff: <\/strong>Hooked on Viagra? No way! In fact, I usually don’t like to take any drug or medication that I don’t absolutely need, so I’m thinking about cutting it out entirely if I can.
