Decreasing interest in penis implants<\/strong><\/p>\n

Given the ease of taking a small pill to treat erectile dysfunction, it’s not surprising to learn that penis implants are becoming less and less popular<\/a>. About 4.3% of men opted for a penis implant in 2002, but by 2010, more than a decade after Cialis first hit the market, just 2.3% of men decided to get one.<\/p>\n

Some doctors are a little surprised by the decline since some believe that the implants provide the highest satisfaction rating. Why? Because men can literally achieve an erection on demand.<\/p>\n

A new implant creates buzz<\/strong><\/p>\n

A new implant, dubbed The Bionic Penis, is a small coil of nickel and titanium. Brian Le, a new faculty member in the Department of Urology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is working on the new implant that’s heat-activated. (See what the implant looks like<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Le and his team are currently working on a remote control that can warm the implant when it’s waved over the penis. Once the body temperature rises so does the implant. Research suggests that the implant will “expand the penis in length and girth.”<\/p>\n

The surgery to place the implant in the penis is also simpler than current procedures, which Le believes will be a selling point for both urologists and patients.<\/p>\n

Will the Bionic Penis be available soon?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le’s research is promising, but it’s still in the mechanical testing phase. If all goes well, Le believes continued testing could have the “Bionic Penis” on the market in five to ten years.<\/p>\n

While this new implant may not be a preference for every man, it does provide more options to treat the condition \u2013 especially for those who don’t respond to erectile dysfunction medications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
