\"\"<\/a>For many, the blooming trees and sprouting flowers are welcomed signs of spring, but for people with seasonal allergies these signs aren\u2019t welcomed at all.\u00a0 \u00a0The increased pollen in the air leads to itchy eyes, stuffy noses, and sore throats for many.\u00a0 \u00a0According to the Asthma and Allergies Foundation of American, 60 million people battle allergies in the U.S. alone.<\/p>\n

To beat the symptoms brought on by allergies, many people take an over the counter medication, but a new study shows one antihistamine is above all the rest.\u00a0 In a European study, Allegra was shown to offer the best overall relief.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Researchers in the United Kingdom compared two popular allergy medications, Allegra and Zyrtec.\u00a0 More than 700 patients, ranging in age from 12-65, took part in the study.\u00a0\u00a0 One group took Allegra, another took Zyrtec, and a third group took a placebo, or sugar pill.\u00a0 Researchers found those taking Allegra felt better longer, and didn\u2019t have any drowsiness which\u00a0was a\u00a0side effect\u00a0found in those taking Zyrtec.\u00a0 Allegra users had 24 hour relief from their allergy symptoms.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>One researcher says there are several antiquated allergy medications on the market that can leave allergy sufferers feeling worse while taking medication.\u00a0 Martin Stern, a co-author of the study says, \u201cPeople should demand a nonsedating antihistamine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The findings were published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.<\/p>\n

Where are allergies the worst?
\n<\/strong>An annual report shows the worst cities for people with allergies to live in.\u00a0 Cities are ranked based on pollen score, number of allergy medications used per patient, and number of allergy specialist per patient.\u00a0<\/p>\n
