Innovations in technologies like telemedicine aid and revamp health care facilities. To put technology to work helping people is the reason why it exists.<\/p>\n

Telemedicine is a developing technology that provides health care to those living anywhere, particularly to patients that live in rural environments with little to no access to medical care.<\/p>\n

Many of our heroes (United States veterans) live in areas without doctors and facilities within a reasonable distance. Telemedicine aims to change the lack of services available to the men and women who have served our nation.<\/p>\n

Telemedicine is burgeoning all over the county with states like Texas, Georgia and Alaska initiating programs to provide veterans with the medical care they so desperately need. Veteran affairs has been conducting research to test how effective and how veterans are responding to this technological development.<\/p>\n

In 2016, over half a million veterans attended an estimated two million telehealth appointments.<\/p>\n

As this industry expands Veteran Affairs expects the number of veterans and telehealth appointments to skyrocket. Veterans with chronic illnesses who live in rural areas, historically have been under served have and suffered without the appropriate medical attention. <\/p>\n

There are two types of telemedical options available. A synchronous appointment is a clinical video uplink between the patient and medical professional at the same time, similar to a Skype or FaceTime call.<\/p>\n

The synchronous appointment allows the medical professional and the patient to proceed through the appointment like a traditional meeting with a doctor.<\/p>\n

There are peripheral technologies that can be connected to computers and audio-visual equipment that aid in the doctors examination.<\/p>\n

There are also asynchronous appointments which allows medical information to be dispersed to the medical facility for an assessment at a later time. This type of telemedical appointment doesn’t require for the patient and doctor to be present at the same time.<\/p>\n

The Veteran Affairs Department hopes to expand its use of telemedicine to help rural veterans receive the health care they need and deserve for serving the United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
