It covered three generations \u2014 Baby Boomers, Gen X, and Millennials.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers looked at<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> men\u2019s health <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">attitudes and found many inconsistencies and worrying trends, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Men are reluctant to discuss their health.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The key takeaway from the survey confirms a popular assumption that men don\u2019t discuss their health in casual conversation. Only seven percent said they were likely to talk about health. One-fifth of men revealed they were not discussing private matters, including health and relationships, with anyone.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Women often push partners to deal with health issues.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> If a man decides to confide his health-related concerns to anyone, he chooses his partner, or someone from his immediate family. Women are often the ones who push their partners to visit a doctor.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Men find it easier to mention \u201chero injuries.\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Among the men who talk about health with others, there is a preference to brag about overcoming an injury, for example, something sports-induced. Forty-two percent wouldn\u2019t talk about health unless it was a close call.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Men are not too concerned about their health.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For most men their number one priority is the well-being of their family (37 percent). The top two fears are heart attack (mentioned by 44 percent of respondents) and cancer (42 percent).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And number three among men\u2019s health frights? Weight gain \u2014 which makes a lot of sense if you think about it, as the extra pounds often lead to other physical problems, such as diabetes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Outcomes of the men\u2019s health survey have confirmed that the older we get, the more interested in our physical well-being we become. For example, 51 percent of Baby Boomers are serious about heart attack prevention. For Millennials, the problem is not so urgent, it seems \u2014 only 38 percent said they take it into account.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s Sexual Health Is Still Taboo<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bedroom health concerns are still taboo subjects for most men. Only five percent say they discuss them with anyone. That number matches the percentage of men who talk about their sex lives in casual conversations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This silence around sexual health makes it harder for men to access information and medical care. Ten percent of men don&#8217;t even know <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/erectile-dysfunction\/when-should-you-see-a-urologist-for-your-sexual-dysfunction\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who a urologist is<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 and this is the doctor a man should go to if he suspects issues such as erectile dysfunction or prostate cancer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It looks as if men don\u2019t realize there are things they can do to reduce the risk of sexual dysfunction in the future. Compared to the ladies, men are less likely to receive a psychological diagnosis and treatment. And if left untreated, conditions such as depression can be life threatening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every year over six million <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhanational.org\/infographic-mental-health-men\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American men suffer from depression<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The results of the MENtion It Survey show, however, that men are reluctant to talk about depression or anxiety. Only 14 percent stated they felt comfortable having a conversation about those concerns.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Ignoring Preventative Care May Backfire<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MENtion It Survey revealed another worrying fact. Most men are misinformed about the age guidelines for preventative checkups.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not so bad if a man wants to get his health checked earlier than recommended. But if he goes to the doctor much later than he should, he may discover that he\u2019s at an advanced stage of a serious disease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And we\u2019re not talking about a preventative care mistake of one or two years.
