The marketers of Semenax claim you\u2019ll have better sex and more volume when you ejaculate, but does the science hold up? Learn what\u2019s in Semenax, what the supplement claims it does versus the science, and where to get FDA-approved erectile dysfunction medication.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>What is Semenax?<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where most gas station sex pills are focused on erectile dysfunction or talk about testosterone, Semenax is more blunt. The company behind Semenax, Leading Edge Health, makes several other products we\u2019ve profiled in this series, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/erectile-dysfunction\/vigrx-plus\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">VigRX Plus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/erectile-dysfunction\/erectin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Erectin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They share many of the same ingredients found in Semenax.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Do Semenax\u2019s Ingredients Work?<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the bottom of the Semenax website is this disclaimer: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThese statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-picking-vegretables-at-a-market.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With that in mind, let\u2019s look at the evidence behind Semenax\u2019s ingredients.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-picking-vegretables-at-a-market.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Swedish flower pollen.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> As far as we can tell, \u201cSwedish flower\u201d is not the name of an actual flower, and it\u2019s not clear from the label which flower is being used. The only evidence we\u2019ve found was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5401347\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a survey of studies conducted in 2017<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that found encouraging signs of possible treatment with flower pollen (no mention of the word Swedish) for prostatitis. The authors recommended more rigorous study.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>L-arginine HCL.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a common amino acid found in foods high in protein. The research is mixed on this one. Some studies have found that l-arginine can have positive effects on erectile function and sperm quality, but others have found no effect. Either way, many experts feel it\u2019s better to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/articles\/22243-amino-acids\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">get l-arginine through your diet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>L-lysine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Lysine is another amino acid, with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/25038526\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">similar possible benefits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but again, your best route for these is probably through your diet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b><i>Epimedium sagittatum.<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Better known as horny goat weed, this herb contains a substance called icariin that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6271987\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may be useful for increasing sperm count<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (though note that this study was conducted on rats and may not translate to humans). But it\u2019s still under study, and unlikely to be available in herbal supplements in any effective amount.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Zinc oxide and zinc aspartate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There is evidence that zinc can improve <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/8875519\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">testosterone levels<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6010824\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sperm quality<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but it\u2019s not a silver bullet and is best consumed from what you eat.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle-.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle-.jpg\" alt=\"man riding a bycicle\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle-.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle--300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle--1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle--768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/man-riding-a-bycicle--1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>L-carnitine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Another amino acid that does show <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2077-0383\/12\/18\/5796\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some promise to help with sperm production<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, high-protein foods are likely a better source.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Catuaba bark. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Catuaba bark is a traditional remedy from Brazil, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8853101\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">animal studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> seem to indicate that it may protect the male reproductive system against pollutants called phthalates, such as those found in PVC plastic. But it\u2019s not clear that low-level phthalate exposure is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/biomonitoring\/Phthalates_FactSheet.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">even a human health problem<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and more research is needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pumpkin seed. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pumpkin seed is included in Semenax because it\u2019s high in zinc, which is odd because zinc is also one of Semenax\u2019s ingredients. One study conducted on rats found that pumpkin seeds <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33502019\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">may help the body increase its levels of nitric oxide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other reproductive chemicals, which may help with ED. But the rats were fed pumpkin seeds, and since they\u2019re also high in fiber, protein, and healthy fats, having some pumpkin seeds as a regular snack is probably more beneficial.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Maca.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There are some intriguing small studies in men <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4569766\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">showing promise for fertility issues<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like sperm concentration and motility, but more research is needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vitamin E.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8523239\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021 study of vitamin E<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> found no impact on fertility in men. Vitamin E is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ods.od.nih.gov\/factsheets\/VitaminE-HealthProfessional\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an essential nutrient<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but you should talk to a doctor about a possible vitamin E deficiency.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pine bark extract.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Like many of the ingredients, there are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12418064\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small-scale studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that point towards possible benefits for sperm morphology, but more research is needed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b><i>Muira puama<\/i><\/b><b>.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is another Brazilian folk remedy, but we were unable to find any meaningful studies linking this herb with sperm or semen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Hawthorne. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6211218\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">interesting animal studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have shown overall fertility improvements in male rats, but there\u2019s no conclusive evidence that hawthorne has any effect on human sperm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Cranberry extract<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Probably the strangest included ingredient, this supposedly is in the mix because it encourages sexual thoughts. We were unable to find any evidence to substantiate this claim, but <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/health.clevelandclinic.org\/benefits-of-cranberries\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cranberries themselves are good for you<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, so this ingredient is unlikely to be harmful.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sarsaparilla<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We couldn\u2019t find any research, one way or the other, on any impacts sarsaparilla had on sperm count or male fertility.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b><i>Avina sativa <\/i><\/b><b>(oats).<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> We weren\u2019t able to find any evidence of oats having an impact on male fertility, positive or negative. Again, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsph.harvard.edu\/nutritionsource\/food-features\/oats\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">getting the nutrients directly by including oats in your diet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is probably a better way to benefit from oats.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b><i>Butea superba.<\/i><\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/16889907\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rat studies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> point toward this herb promoting an increase in sperm count, but it\u2019s not clear that humans would benefit in the same way or what the mechanism may be.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Is Semenax Safe?<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-35862\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg\" alt=\"middle-aged couple outdoors considering semenax\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4-1536x1024.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, we were unable to find any evidence that any of the ingredients in the product are particularly dangerous, singly or in combination. As long as you\u2019re not allergic to any of them, it should be safe to take. The caveat, however, is that this means we\u2019ve also found no definitive evidence that the ingredients have much of an effect, alone or in combination.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s also a risk of contamination with any herbal supplement. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/medication-health-fraud\/tainted-sexual-enhancement-products\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Contraband pharmaceuticals can be added<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, by mistake or intentionally, anywhere in the supply chain, and there isn\u2019t much that can be done to detect it until the FDA receives a complaint.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Counterfeiting and hidden ingredients are also common problems with supplements. <\/span><b>Leading Edge has, as of this writing, not had any reports of tainted supplements that we can find.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> However, In 2017, the Australian government issued a safety alert that they had discovered <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tga.gov.au\/news\/safety-alerts\/semenax-capsules-counterfeit-version\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">counterfeit Semanax<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that contained yohimbe, an ingredient that was not listed on the label.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are real risks with any supplement, and they should be weighed carefully before using any product that is not FDA approved and purchased from a trusted source.<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/4.jpeg-min-4.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Is There Peer-Reviewed Research on Semanax?<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The answer is yes, but with caveats.
