We&#8217;ve seen <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pure.manchester.ac.uk\/ws\/files\/188516073\/JFC_PURE.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">big spikes in new fraud cases<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> since the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fbi.gov\/contact-us\/field-offices\/baltimore\/news\/as-valentines-day-nears-be-aware-of-the-dangers-of-romance-scams\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FBI\u2019s Internet Crime Complaint Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, there were over 19,000 complaints about romance scams in 2022 alone. Reported losses amounted to almost $740 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a few years earlier, those numbers were much lower.
