\nA new study shows patients using\u00a0Zyban,\u00a0an FDA approved treatment to help smokers quit,\u00a0gained less weight than those who tried to quit cold turkey.\u00a0 \u00a0The Food and Drug Administration cleared the drug, which is a nicotine-free prescription, in 1997.<\/p>\n

A doctor from Massachusetts General Hospital conducted a study that involved 784 smokers.\u00a0 All of them were put on Zyban for seven weeks and given brief counseling about their addiction.\u00a0 After week seven, 435 patients were living cigarette free.\u00a0 From that point, patients either remained on\u00a0Zyban or a placebo.\u00a0At the end of two years those who hadn\u2019t picked up a cigarette were put on a scale.\u00a0 According to the results those that took Zyban gained 9 pounds less than those taking the placebo.<\/p>\n

The list of reasons holding smokers back<\/strong>
\nEvery smoker has an excuse.\u00a0 The \u201cI\u2019ll quit soon\u201d excuse is no longer holding up as more and more “quit aids” become available.\u00a0 Now it appears the worry of gaining weight while quitting smoking could be diminished through Zyban.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
