Low testosterone, also known as \u201clow T,\u201d can increase your interest in sex and\/or cause you to develop erectile dysfunction (ED). Still, having low T doesn\u2019t necessarily mean you\u2019ll get ED.<\/p>\n

Will Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) help my ED?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve got normal levels of testosterone, TRT alone probably won\u2019t do anything to help your ED. If you have low testosterone, TRT alone may help your sex drive but not your ED.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not to say that TRT never helps ED. Many men report better erections when they are on TRT and taking prescription ED drugs, such as Viagra, Levitra or Cialis. On the flip side, some men don\u2019t respond to these ED medications without also receiving TRT.<\/p>\n

Another way that TRT can help ED in men with low T is by lowering the risk of diabetes, increasing insulin sensitivity and reducing belly fat, all of which are risk factors for ED. Some men with low T may also benefit from heart health while on TRT.<\/p>\n

What are the risks and side effects of TRT?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In high doses, TRT can worsen heart disease. It can also cause acne, shrink your testicles and enlarge your breasts. There may be other side effects and risks, but the long-term safety and effectiveness hasn\u2019t been thoroughly studied yet.<\/p>\n

What can I try on my own before turning to TRT?<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you want to try to raise your testosterone on your own before trying TRT, commit to a healthy diet and regular exercise. Both can help improve your erections and your sex drive, especially if you\u2019re overweight or obese.<\/p>\n

There are lots of other conditions that can cause ED: high cholesterol, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, multiple sclerosis and hardening of the arteries can all play a role.
