If a transgender person has changed their name or goes by a new name, don\u2019t use their old name when referring to them. It\u2019s also inappropriate to ask about someone\u2019s original name.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Don\u2019t use offensive language.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> While language preferences vary between people and cultures, there are several terms that are considered offensive across the board. Avoid terms that have historically been used to \u201cother\u201d transgender people or label them as dangerous, sexually deviant, or mentally ill. This includes \u201ctransvestite,\u201d \u201ctranny,\u201d \u201cgender identity disorder,\u201d and similar terms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Do better next time. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There may be times when you accidentally use the wrong term or pronoun.
