Like other LUTS symptoms, storage symptoms are more frequent in older people. The older you get, the more likely you are to develop LUTS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Storage symptoms include:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>The need to urinate often (frequency)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You may find yourself having to go to the toilet often during the day or the night (nocturia). Nocturia disrupts sleep and can lead to other problems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Urinating more. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you pass larger urine volumes than normal during the day or night, you may have polyuria.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Bladder-filling problems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You may feel like you have a full bladder most of the time or never have a full bladder. You may also get sudden urges to urinate without being able to control them, known as urgency.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Incontinence symptoms. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People suffering from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK559095\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">incontinence<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> find it impossible to hold their urine. They leak urine involuntarily, during sleep, during strenuous physical activity, or for many other reasons. Urinary incontinence can also occur due to toileting difficulties, overloaded bladder, neurologic problems, sexual activity, and disabilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nocturia is a common condition affecting one in two men. Storage symptoms are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthymale.org.au\/mens-health\/urinary-problems-luts\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more common<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in men than voiding symptoms.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Voiding Symptoms<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As men age, they tend to experience more and more LUTS-related symptoms. Many of these symptoms manifest during urination.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Voiding symptoms men with LUTS may experience include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Delayed urination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You may feel like you are ready to urinate, yet the jet takes its time to appear.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Paruresis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You can\u2019t urinate when others are around, though you have no problems urinating alone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Slow stream<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It takes you a long time to empty your bladder.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Interrupted urination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Your urinal jet starts then stops. And it starts again.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Bloody urine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You notice <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK534213\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blood in your urine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Painful urination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You find it painful to urinate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Terminal dribbling<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Toward the end of urination, your stream slows to a dribble.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Position-dependent urination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You can only urinate in a certain body position (e.g. sitting down).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Urinary retention<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. When your bladder is full, you find it impossible to urinate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Partial voiding<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You find it impossible to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icurology.org\/DOIx.php?id=10.4111\/icu.2018.59.1.38\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">empty your bladder completely<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Post-urination incontinence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. After completing urination, you keep leaking urine for a while.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Post-urination urgency<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You feel like you must go again immediately after you complete urination.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These symptoms can indicate LUTS or scores of other \u2014 potentially severe \u2014 health conditions. They have noticed that abdominal obesity and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s11934-014-0462-x\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high blood sugar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or cholesterol levels tend to accompany the common storage symptoms. Obstructive sleep apnea is also a possible cause of LUTS.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conditions that may cause voiding symptoms are more diverse. To confirm the diagnosis, doctors may also order a urinanalysis to ensure that the cause of your symptoms isn\u2019t a urinary tract infection (UTI). Surgery and minimally invasive surgical therapies can help LUTS patients who do not respond to other treatment methods.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Herbal compounds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Saw palmetto may offer an alternative treatment path for LUTS.
