There is even a belief among the local residents that the vapors from the facility are so potent that the effect of the drug is in the air – serving the community as a sort of aphrodisiac. There’s even been a feature film based on that very premise.<\/p>\n

The jokes and tales<\/a> abound. One resident, James Hartnett, recently said in an interview that, “a man started work at Pfizer [the Viagra factory] and nine months later his wife gave birth to quadruplets. There’s babies everywhere.”<\/p>\n

All joking aside, Pfizer seems to produce happy employees as well as the drug that has helped millions of men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. Following an expansion in the factory back in 2012, Hartnett recalls, “I was inundated with calls, but the turnover there is very low, because they are such good jobs.”<\/p>\n

The Journey from Ireland<\/b><\/p>\n

From Ringaskiddy, the components produced to create the drug are shipped to production facilities in America and France in shipping containers. This is to prevent the finished drug from being stolen and sold on the black market. There are many instances of counterfeit and stolen medication. Stolen Viagra can be worth more than $20 per pill on the black market, and the raw ingredients can be worth even more.<\/p>\n

Once the components enter the combination facility, the ingredients are combined and packaged. Included in each bottle is a RFID tracking chip to verify quality and prevent forgery.<\/p>\n

Viagra is one of the most commonly forged medications in the world, and the RFID chips help keep the percentage of fake medicine on the market lower than 1% in the developed world<\/a>, RFID tags are also attached to each case and each pallet of Viagra, and all of these tags will be checked before the medication is stocked.<\/p>\n

What’s Behind the Demand for Viagra?<\/b><\/p>\n
