Can Condoms Cause Erectile Dysfunction?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

If you\u2019ve been blaming condoms for your erectile dysfunction (ED), it may be time to figure out the real<\/em> problem. That\u2019s because a study published in the journal Sex Health<\/em> found that of 479 men between ages 18 and 24, those who reported condom-associated erectile problems were also more likely to report ED even when they weren\u2019t using condoms.<\/p>\n

So what does<\/em> cause ED<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are countless factors that can cause or contribute to erectile dysfunction: aging, high blood pressure, heart disease, Parkinson\u2019s, multiple sclerosis, an enlarged prostate and diabetes, just to name a few.<\/p>\n

But those aren\u2019t likely the cause of ED for these 18 to 24 year-olds. In this age group, erectile dysfunction is more likely caused by too much alcohol, excessive smoking or drug use, anxiety or, ironically, the fear of not being able to get or maintain an erection.<\/p>\n

So are condoms off the hook<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the National Institutes of Health, \u201crubbers\u201d have been linked to ED for \u201cfit or feel\u201d problems and men\u2019s lack of confidence to use them correctly. One way to prevent condom-related impotence would be to educate men on proper condom use. Practice makes perfect and helping men feel as though they\u2019ve mastered the technique of putting on a condom and using it properly may be enough to help them achieve and maintain an erection.<\/p>\n

Regardless of the problem with condoms, not using them can put both sexual partners at greater risk for sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies.<\/p>\n

What if I still have ED<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re secure in your abilities to use condoms and you still have trouble getting hard, consider talking to your doctor about getting a prescription for Viagra, Cialis or another ED medication. Sure, it might feel embarrassing to bring it up at first, but you\u2019ve got nothing to lose and satisfying intercourse to gain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
