Bloggers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.menshealth.com\/sex-women\/a19545512\/extracorporeal-shock-wave-therapy\/\">praise them<\/a> for their ability to bring back youthful erections. They are non-invasive and promise to restore erectile function. But do they really work? And are they safe to try?<\/p>\n<h3>What are restorative therapies for ED?<\/h3>\n<p>Restorative therapies aim to bring back natural erections and healthy sexual function to men who suffer from erectile dysfunction. Here is an overview of three methods currently being studied as ED treatments:<\/p>\n<h4>Shockwave therapy for ED<\/h4>\n<p>Low-intensity shockwave therapy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/erectile-dysfunction\/shock-wave-therapy-for-ed\/\">has been used<\/a> in medicine for over 40 years.<br \/>\nThe procedure works by sending acoustic waves through affected tissue.<br \/>\nFor someone with ED, that means applying shockwaves to the penis. Although it may sound scary, the procedure is not painful. Stem cells have an amazing potential to regenerate and heal damage in our tissues, as our bodies can make organs and blood cells out of them.<br \/>\nStem cells can be collected from several sources, such as the umbilical cord from newborns, fatty tissue, or bone marrow.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers believe that stem cells can restore damage to the penis caused by disease or surgery. Clinical trials focused on men with ED caused by prostate surgery or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/erectile-dysfunction\/erectile-dysfunction-diabetes-treatment\/\">diabetes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While initial findings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0302283815009343?via%3Dihub\">are optimistic<\/a>, it is too early to say if this approach can become a valid ED treatment.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ectrx.org\/forms\/ectrxcontentshow.php?year=2010&amp;volume=8&amp;issue=2&amp;supplement=0&amp;makale_no=0&amp;spage_number=150&amp;content_type=FULL%20TEXT\">study<\/a> involving diabetics concluded that stem cell therapies may not be long lasting. While many participants saw improvement in their sexual function, the effects seem to have faded over time. We need larger trials to conclusively determine the effectiveness of stem cells for erectile dysfunction in the general population.<\/p>\n<h4>Platelet-rich plasma therapy for ED<\/h4>\n<p>Platelet-rich plasma (better known as PRP) is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hopkinsmedicine.org\/health\/treatment-tests-and-therapies\/plateletrich-plasma-prp-treatment\">currently being used<\/a> to treat certain conditions, such as joint injuries, using platelets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4338460\/\">obtained from a patient\u2019s own blood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Platelets are known for their tissue healing properties, so scientists are working to find out if they can treat erectile dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>This therapy, too, has some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/blog\/erectile-dysfunction\/effective-ed-treatment\/\">favorable research<\/a> behind it for treatment of ED. It\u2019s not a surprise that some medical license holders are already offering \u201crevolutionary\u201d therapies for erectile dysfunction. Here\u2019s what to watch out for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Read between the lines.<\/strong> Clinics that offer shockwave therapy for ED back it up with proven methods. So, don\u2019t be surprised if your treatment plan is \u201cenriched by\u201d a Viagra prescription, a penis pump, or diet recommendations for \u201cbest results.\u201d<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>\u201cRevolutionary therapies for ED\u201d come with a high price tag.<\/strong> A course of shockwave treatment can cost over $4000.00, and stem cell injection prices reach up to $12,000. That\u2019s a lot of money for a therapy that may not work.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Medical tourism comes with a risk.<\/strong> Some men travel to another country, hoping to pay less for their ED treatment. Be careful! Some countries don\u2019t have strict regulations on product safety. Their conclusion? We don\u2019t have enough high-quality data to confirm the efficacy of those methods.<\/p>\n<p>The most recent American Urological Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.auanet.org\/guidelines\/guidelines\/erectile-dysfunction-(ed)-guideline\">guidelines<\/a> state that shockwave, stem cell, and platelet-rich plasma therapies be considered \u201cexperimental\u201d or \u201cinvestigational.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s hope that further studies confirm the benefits of these therapies for men with ED. For now, though, we need to proceed with caution.<\/p>\n<h3>Is it risky to try experimental ED treatments?<\/h3>\n<p>What if you\u2019re keen to seek out one of these methods? How much risk would be involved?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shockwave treatment.<\/strong> Out of the three regenerative therapies, only shockwave treatment is deemed \u201crelatively safe\u201d by the research. Still, we also don\u2019t have a full risk picture of its use for ED.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stem cell therapy.<\/strong> We still don\u2019t understand what the risks of stem cell injections are.
