It concluded that sodium valproate caused more frequent and more severe cases of erectile dysfunction than levetiracetam.<\/p>\n<p>Levetiracetam is a better choice for epilepsy management than other antiepileptic drugs for epilepsy sufferers who want to be sexually active. According to the study results, instead of impairing sexual function, it improved it.<\/p>\n<p>Other anticonvulsants that may cause erectile and sexual dysfunction are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Topiramate (best known as Topamax)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Oxcarbazepine (best known as Trileptal). Specifically, oxcarbazepine may make it difficult for patients to achieve orgasm despite sufficient sexual stimulation, though <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/26559937\/\">other research<\/a> found that, like levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine can improve sexual function.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Phenobarbital (brand name Luminal). In both cases, doctors determined that the likely cause of the seizures was the anti-ED drug.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the patients took sildenafil three months after the incident and again had a seizure as a result.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3401299\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2012 study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> looked at the interactions of sildenafil with five anticonvulsants \u2014 phenobarbital, ethosuximide, clonazepam, tiagabine, and valproate \u2014 in mice. It concluded that sildenafil did not hasten or delay the onset of seizures, and it actually improved the anticonvulsant effects of some of the drugs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In proper doses, sildenafil is safe for most ED sufferers.
