This is due to stringent rules regarding the creation of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, a new ED drug hasn’t been approved in over a decade. This has finally changed due to the approval of Vivus’s avanafil-based drug, Stendra. Like all ED pills, Stendra works by increasing blood flow to the penis. However, Stendra’s big selling point is that it is the fastest acting pill available on the market.<\/p>\n

Stendra: New Pill Designed to Help Weak Erections ED Issues <\/strong>
\nStendra joins the hallowed halls of FDA approved ED drugs, which includes Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. However, while Viagra needs to be taken up to an hour before sexual activity, Stendra holds the distinction that it can show results within 15-30 minutes. Vivus ran trials with 1,267 patients to determine Stendra’s efficiency. In their clinical trials, it was reported that 77 percent of subjects were able to achieve an erection with Stendra, compared to the 54 perecent of subjects taking a placebo pill. Additionally, Stendra led to successful intercourse in 57 percent of subjects, compared with 27 percent of subjects given a placebo.<\/p>\n

While Stendra’s results are optimistic, it still faces all the pitfalls that are synonymous with PDE5 drugs. PDE5 drugs increase blood flow to the penis, and this sudden shift in blood flow may cause complications. According to the FDA, the most common side effects for PDE5 drugs are headaches, redness of the face, nasal congestion, back pain, and cold like symptoms. In rare cases, PDE5 drugs may cause erections that last for over 4 hours or even partial blindness or hearing loss.<\/p>\n
