Weight loss can improve sex life, according to a new study.<\/figcaption><\/figure>A new study investigates the connection between erection preformance and obesity. While erection medications like Viagra and Cialis can improve the sex life of those struggling with weight, the study shows dropping just a few pounds can turn things around in the bedroom.<\/p>\n

The Australian study, which involved a small number of patients (31), found that dropping just 5 to 10 percent of body weight over a two-month time frame improved erectile function and increased sexual desire.<\/p>\n

Getting a man’s attention<\/strong><\/p>\n

Doctors say it\u2019s difficult to get men to take their weight problems seriously. Obesity can lead to other problems including heart trouble and diabetes, but doctors say most men don\u2019t take those potential risks seriously.<\/p>\n

“You talk all the prevention you want,” says Kevin Billups, M.D., an associate professor of urology at the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis tells CNN<\/a>.<\/b> “When I talk about restoring penile health, I have their attention.”<\/p>\n

When a patient comes to see Billups, he has the patient stand up and look down. “If you can’t see your penis,” he says, “that’s a problem.”<\/p>\n

The connection between weight and erection preformance<\/strong><\/p>\n

Billups says obesity effects blood vessels. Without healthy vessels, blood flow is interrupted and leads to problems getting or sustaining an erection.<\/p>\n

Researchers are still learning how ED and weight are connected.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

“An erection is basically a cardiovascular event,” says Robert A. Kloner, M.D., a cardiologist and professor of medicine at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, in Los Angeles. “If blood flow cannot increase because the blood vessels can’t dilate normally, then there’s a decrease in erection function.”<\/p>\n

In the study, men who lost weight saw improvement in the health of their blood vessels. In turn, their sex lives improved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
