Viagra&#8217;s stronghold over this weekend trend has existed since the data&#8217;s been available. However, Viagra&#8217;s reign appears to be declining. Once quite popular, interest in Viagra has dropped in 2020, and it may be a sign of changes in the ED drug market.<\/p>\n<h3>What the Data Shows<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>First, a brief overview of Google Trends is in order. A \u201c100\u201d means the term is one of the most popular search terms for that day, and each point it drops reflects a drop in popularity. In other words, a ranking of \u201c50\u201d means the term is half as popular as the most popular search terms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.edrugstore.com\/erectile-dysfunction\/buy-viagra\/\">Viagra<\/a>, represented by the blue line, generally held place in the 70-80 popularity score range over the last year, occasionally jumping to 90 or even the most popular search term.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"fr-fil fr-dib aligncenter\" style=\"width: 900px;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mediashower.com\/img\/0AB06F7C-90DC-11EA-BDD6-3C96FCCF0D54\/viagra over time year_900x.jpg\" alt=\"Viagra interest over time chart.\" width=\"900\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2020, though, a distinct decline in interest becomes apparent. True, Viagra&#8217;s competitors (Cialis and Levitra) also struggled, and their generic names were generally low-searched in the first place. Both Viagra and the generic sildenafil, can still be prescribed by a doctor online. Instead, this may be a matter of priorities. ED can is linked to several health conditions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/22240443\">such as high blood pressure<\/a>, that may be risk factors for COVID-19 complications. Fearful, customers might be prioritizing other aspects of physical health first.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patent Pressure:<\/strong> Viagra has been available as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/brucelee\/2017\/12\/06\/viagra-get-ready-for-it-to-becomes-generic-cheaper-and-more-available\/#6a2ca8d63200\">a licensed generic since 2017<\/a>. As of April 2020, however, Pfizer&#8217;s patent on sildenafil officially expired. This allows competition from other generics to enter the market. Patent expiry won&#8217;t make things any easier. One meta-analysis found that after expiry, a drug&#8217;s price <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6132437\/\">generally sinks from 33% to 67%<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Price:\u00a0<\/strong>Even as Congress is looking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/joshuacohen\/2019\/12\/15\/prescription-drug-pricing-reduction-act-may-become-law-in-2020\/#1d2618425537\">drive down the cost of medications across the board<\/a>, Viagra remains the most expensive ED treatment on the market. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20200505005856\/en\/Generic-ED-Drug-Prices-Drop-Branded-Drug\">An analysis by eDrugstore<\/a> found that while several generics have almost halved their cost in the last six months, a 100mg dose of Viagra has stayed largely stable in price.
