The holidays are upon us once again, and alcohol is flowing a little more freely than it does during the rest of the year. Enjoying the relaxing effects of a drink or two can ease seasonal tensions and might even spark romance. But drinking too much can sabotage even the best-laid plans for romance and merry-making.<\/p>\n

An article posted at BeverageDaily.com<\/a> reported that a survey conducted by Morning Recovery revealed that Americans consume roughly twice as much alcohol between Thanksgiving and New Years as they do the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

Consumption Doubles<\/h3>\n

The average alcohol consumption for adults during the rest of the year is four drinks a week. But during the holiday period, that jumps up to an average of eight drinks a week, according to the survey. Morning Recovery reported that 36 percent of the survey\u2019s respondents admit that holiday overindulgence in alcohol has at times dampened the spirit of the season for them.<\/p>\n

Having a little too much to drink can be especially disheartening to men, many of whom find that it significantly impairs their ability to perform sexually. Extreme overindulgence, in fact, can make it difficult, if not impossible, for men to get an erection at all.<\/p>\n

Body\u2019s Busy Processing Alcohol<\/h3>\n

And even drinking lesser — but still immoderate — amounts of alcohol can cause your erection to fail before sexual activity is completed. As explained in an article at SpaceCoastDaily.com<\/a>, \u201cyour body is\u00a0too busy processing the alcohol safely to simultaneously spare the blood flow needed to maintain an erection.\u201d<\/p>\n

Happily, there\u2019s no reason to eliminate alcohol from the holiday festivities, but almost all health authorities agree that moderation is the key. And what, you might ask, does \u201cmoderation\u201d mean for me?<\/p>\n

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, guidelines recommend that women limit their alcohol intake to a glass of alcohol a day. For men, two drinks a day is the recommended maximum.<\/p>\n
