Introduced in 2003, five years after the debut of Viagra, Levitra became the second in a family of oral erectile dysfunction drugs known as PDE5 inhibitors. Like all other drugs in the family, it temporarily sidelines an enzyme known as phosphodiesterase-5, which can interfere with optimal blood flow to the penis, particularly in men with compromised vascular function.<\/p>\n

Available in tablets of 10 and 20 milligrams, Levitra is similar to Viagra in both its onset of effects and duration of action, although slightly longer-lasting. The recommended starting dose of Levitra — as well as its generic equivalent, vardenafil — is 10 milligrams, which can be adjusted upward to 20 milligrams if the lower dose isn\u2019t enough to achieve the desired results.<\/p>\n

Several<\/strong>\u00a0Pharmacies Surveyed<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Secure Medical\u2019s September review of ED drug prices and costs surveyed a total of 16 pharmacies — 15 conventional retailers and one that operates exclusively online. All of these outlets are either broad regional or nationwide suppliers.<\/p>\n

Because virtually all pharmacies charge the same price for the number of Levitra pills you buy, regardless of their strength, savvy consumers have long adopted the practice of buying higher strength tablets and splitting them in half. This, in effect, gives them two doses for the price of one. The numbers that follow are the approximate cost of 10-milligram doses of both Levitra and vardenafil, based on half the current price of a 20-milligram tablet.
