The connection between productivity and erectile dysfunction has not been studied in-depth so far, at least not on a global scale. A team of reproductive health scientists decided to fill that gap. They studied<\/a> over 50 000 men aged 40-70 from eight countries.<\/p>\n

Large study reveals ED affects work productivity<\/h3>\n

Findings from all countries confirm that erectile dysfunction has a negative impact on men’s professional activity. In over 7% of cases men took sick days off (compared to ca. 3% of men without ED).<\/p>\n

The scale of so-called presenteeism (reporting to work while sick, which may affect the quality of performance) was even higher. 22.5% for men with erectile problems experienced it vs. 10% of those without ED.<\/p>\n

Overall productivity on the job was also much worse for men with ED (almost 25%) compared to men without ED (ca. 11%).<\/p>\n

The study showed that the severity of erectile dysfunction was also a factor. More erectile problems meant more work issues and poorer health-related quality of life.<\/p>\n

ED is often linked to other health conditions<\/h3>\n

Researchers point out that many cases of erectile dysfunction are linked to other health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes. They also note that the problem is likely to get worse as younger men are being diagnosed with ED these days.<\/p>\n

And what about burden for companies? We’re talking thousands of men taking sick days off. Those who do present at work are not able to give it everything they got, due to underlying physical or mental health issues.<\/p>\n

Scientists suggest changes in health systems. With better detection and earlier treatment, it is possible to reduce the effect on the economy.<\/p>\n
