Typically, herpes can’t be eliminated completely. Both Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2 lie dormant in nearby nerves between outbreaks and are therefore difficult to treat. Therefore, the primary aim for treatment is to suppress their recurrence and minimize the severity of outbreaks.<\/p>\n

These herpes medications have a few a side effects that are not worse than the herpes outbreak itself, such as swelling, itching and rash. One feature to consider when determining which medication may be right for you is the dosing regimen. The most convenient regimen is Valacyclovir at 1 gram twice per day for 7-10 days. Valacyclovir can be expensive, and other less expensive options require that you take the medication 3-5 times per day, so be careful not to miss doses.<\/p>\n
