Woman gets new iPhone-operated bionic arms.<\/figcaption><\/figure> New bionic hands are giving a Georgia woman a new lease on life. Aimee Copeland contracted a flesh-eating bacteria known as necrotizing fasciitis last summer when she cut herself on a homemade zip line.<\/p>\n

Copeland’s new hands<\/strong><\/p>\n

Copeland\u2019s $100,000 bionic hands allow her to perform simple tasks like fold a towel, hang clothes and flat iron her hair, according to USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“It feels amazing,” said Copeland, the first woman in the world with bilateral upper limb amputations to be fitted with the all new iLimb ultra revolution prosthetic hands. “The other (artificial) arms I had didn’t feel like an extension of my body.”<\/p>\n

Her \u201cextensions\u201d as Copeland calls them, can be adjusted through her iPhone, keeping the number of adjustments at a doctor\u2019s office to a minimum. The app allows her to change her grip in 24 different ways.<\/p>\n

Company gives amputees prosthetics<\/strong><\/p>\n

The prosthetic arms were given to Copeland for free by Touch Bionics in return for her services as a spokesperson.<\/p>\n

\n “These hands are going to allow Aimee to do more than any other hands that are current available in the world,” said Robert Kistenberg, coordinator of prosthetics for the master’s program in prosthetics and orthotics at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

Copeland isn\u2019t the one recipient of the technology. A man who lost his arms in an ATV accident is also using the company\u2019s latest prosthetic arms<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Copeland\u2019s future plans<\/strong><\/p>\n

The University of West Georgia graduate plans to use her new arms to return to her favorite hobbies.<\/p>\n

“I really want to start cooking,” Copeland said. “So I really want to be able to maybe make myself a yummy veggie pie or something for myself when I get home, maybe knit a hat or something.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
