The couple decided it was time to make changes when Willie met his goddaughter for the first time and worried he wouldn\u2019t be around to watch her grow up.<\/p>\n

Working together<\/strong><\/p>\n

The couple credits their transformation to their unwavering support in one another.<\/p>\n

“Everyone needs that one person to help them through, to talk to and someone who will hold them accountable. That person has been my husband,” Angela writes on her blog, WeBeatFat.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I never wanted to come home and say, ‘This is what I did today,’ because I didn’t want to disappoint him,” she says. “And he didn’t want to disappoint me.”<\/p>\n

The two started going to the gym six days a week and started eating healthier foods, which wasn\u2019t easy for a couple that liked to hit the restaurant scene with friends.<\/p>\n

“Most of the memories we had with our friends (were) sitting down, going out to eat,” she remembers. “Food is a very social thing.”<\/p>\n

Their hometown, Beaumont, Texas, is the fifth most obese city in the U.S., according to CNN<\/a>. Still, the Gillis\u2019 stuck to their plan.<\/p>\n

“We haven’t had fried food in two years,” she says.<\/p>\n

The Gillis\u2019 stuck to their new healthier lifestyle. In two years, Angela went from a size 28 to a size 0. Willie lost 300 pounds and joined a running club.<\/p>\n

“A lot of people give up — they end up quitting because they’re not doing something right. You have to take what you messed up on and try to make it work for you,” he says. “Once you learn it, it doesn’t take much to keep it going.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
