Millions of women take birth control pills, but do they understand what’s in them and how they work? It’s important to know what’s in the medications you take every day.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

In a society that has a pill for everything it can be a bit misguiding which pills are actually doing more good than harm. If the benefits do not outweigh the risk it\u2019s obviously not smart to take the medicine. Only your body knows what\u2019s best for you. It is alarming how many women have never put thought into that pill they take every day and what it could be doing to their body. It\u2019s not something your doctor is trained to discuss with you unless you come to them with an issue. Women need to educate themselves on their birth control method and then decide if it\u2019s the best option. I have been on birth control pills for 14 long years and have been on a nonstop birth control pill for 3 years. Only recently did I step back and take a look what taking birth control pills may be doing to my body. Of course, going off BC pills may not be for everyone since the potential dangers and side effects may not hold a candle to finding yourself pregnant.<\/p>\n

Periods<\/h3>\n

I love knowing when I\u2019m going to get my period and have loved never having a period even more but how safe is it? Though doctors swear that there isn\u2019t anything wrong with skipping your period for a few months or even years, I personally do not believe it to be the healthiest decision for your body. When you do come off your birth control you will notice the obvious differences in your time of the month. It may not come at all and if it does it may be abnormal and extremely painful. This is simply because your body was forced into a certain rhythm and it can take many months to get back on its natural cycle. This can be a nightmare for those wishing to conceive.<\/p>\n

Synthetic Hormones<\/h3>\n

Birth control pills are synthetic estrogen. This tricks your body into believing you\u00a0are pregnant and you do not ovulate. Once you take the last week placebo pills, you experience a huge drop in estrogen and begin your \u201cnormal\u201d period. This constant estrogen creates major ups and downs in your mood and your overall personality. It is also proven to decrease your libido and cause depression in some women. As a woman who has taken birth control pills for almost half of my life and been on an antidepressant for the past year, I wonder if my depression is real or if it is caused by my birth control pills. Antidepressants also cause loss of libido.<\/p>\n

What They Don\u2019t Tell You<\/h3>\n

We all know that birth control pills can make your boobs bigger, your skin clearer (or more prone to acne), weight gain and create emotional sensitivity. Those are the general side effects. Not too scary but the actual risks are quite frightening. Increased risk of cervical and breast cancers, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, migraines, high blood pressure, gall bladder disease, infertility, benign liver tumors, decreased bone density, yeast overgrowth and infection, increased risk of blood clotting and heart irregularities. These are if you are NOT a smoker. If you are a smoker, it is very dangerous to take birth control pills. All of these risks are intensified.<\/p>\n

I am a firm believer in staying away from anything unnatural or synthetic<\/a>. I want to live as I was intended to. Please look into your birth control pills and see if they pose more risk than you need to be taking. There are plenty of alternative birth control options out there that will not mess with your natural way of life<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
