\nHealth experts say a form of the \u201cmorning after pill\u201d is making its way into the hands of desperate teenagers.\u00a0 The pill sold under the name Evital (pictured to the left) has not been approved by the FDA and may be unsafe and ineffective in preventing pregnancy, the agency said in a recent statement.\u00a0 It is yet another topic in a debate about access of affordable birth control<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Information the FDA wants consumers to know<\/strong>
\n*Contact your doctor or health care professional if you have taken Evital labeled as the 1.5 mg tablet and experienced any problems.<\/p>\n

*There are FDA-approved emergency birth control medicines available both with a prescription, and over-the-counter without a prescription (if you are 17 years old or older).<\/p>\n

*You should talk with a doctor, pharmacist, or health care professional to find the FDA-approved emergency birth control medicine best for you.<\/p>\n

*FDA is asking for help from consumers who have information about Evital.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Safe emergency birth control pills<\/strong>
\nAccording to the Mayo Clinic, safe medication to prevent pregnancy contain certain hormones.\u00a0 Plan B One-Step, Next Choice and Ella are the only morning-after pills that have Food and Drug Administration approval in the U.S.\u00a0 The morning-after pill can be used after you’ve had unprotected sex. \u00a0The morning-after pill can prevent or delay ovulation, block fertilization, or keep a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus.<\/p>\n

Risks associated with FDA approved emergency birth control<\/strong>
\nThe morning-after pill isn’t appropriate for everyone, and the Mayo Clinic says the following people should not take the \u201cmorning after pill\u201d<\/p>\n

*If you’re allergic to any component of the morning-after pill
\n*If you have unexplained vaginal bleeding
\n*If you’re taking certain medications that may decrease the effectiveness of the morning-after pill, such as barbiturates or St. John’s wort<\/p>\n
