\"AThe middle-aged, Baby Boomer generation of adults is the least likely group to be satisfied with their sex lives, a new report found. About 24 percent of 45 to 65 year olds say they are dissatisfied, while only 7 percent of men and women in this age group said they were extremely satisfied under the sheets, or wherever they happen to make love.<\/p>\n

It turns out that only 17 percent of adults over 65 years of age report dissatisfaction with their sex lives. Rounding out the list were the 18 to 29 year olds (only 12 percent dissatisfaction rate) and the 30 to 44 year olds (20 percent dissatisfaction rate.)<\/p>\n

Middle-aged (45 to 65) men, as opposed to women, are the most likely to be unhappy in the bed room, at a rate of 28 percent. More than two in five of these men say their sex lives got worse in the last 10 years. Almost half of middle-aged men say their partners want sex too infrequently, while only 17 percent of women say the same.<\/p>\n

\"MenDr. Ruth Westheimer, the famous sex therapist, chimed in on the poll results and said that there is a miscommunication among Baby Boomers when it comes to sex. As people\u2019s bodies change, their views about sex change as well, she said. The key is to communicate openly about our sexual needs as we grow older.<\/p>\n

This seems to be difficult, however, because there appears to be a little stubbornness in the Baby Boomer bedroom. Almost 60 percent of women and about half of men said they had learned just about all there is to know about sex. This points to the conclusion that sexual experimentation may be dwindling among Baby Boomers \u2013 which could help explain some frustration.<\/p>\n

Dr. Ruth said it is possible to teach an older dog new tricks in the bedroom, and that people must be \u201csexually literate\u201d in their relationship. Perhaps she meant that a couple must be reading the same chapter of the same book, so to speak. It would be even better, certainly, to be on the same page.<\/p>\n

\"Middle-agedWhen it comes to erectile\/sexual dysfunction, about 40 percent of men between the ages of 45 and 65 reported problems. But just less than half of that group had sought medical help.\u00a0 About 45 percent of men over 65 said they experienced difficulties with sexual functioning. Only 16 percent of men under 45 said they had erectile or sexual dysfunction issues.<\/p>\n

Some level of increased dissatisfaction may be unavoidable as we grow older, it seems. After all, if the group of Americans who helped to spearhead the sexual revolution can lose it in the bedroom, then any generation probably can.<\/p>\n

The study was conducted in October, 2010 by Knowledge Networks of Menlo Park, Calif. It involved online interviews with 945 people between the ages of 45 and 65, as well as interviews with an additional 587 people aged 18-44 and over 65.
