The same vasodilatory properties that allow the medication to optimize blood flow and thus temporarily facilitate near-normal erectile function also help to open up arteries that supply the lungs, thus reducing pulmonary blood pressure.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Systolic heart failure:<\/strong> Arnon Blum, M.D., a professor of cardiology at Israel\u2019s Bar Ilan University, authored a study that appeared in the July-August 2009 issue of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/19627292\">\u201cCongestive Heart Failure.\u201d<\/a> In it, Blum wrote that testing had demonstrated that treatment with sildenafil \u201cimproves exercise capacity and quality of life in patients with systolic heart failure, especially in those who develop secondary pulmonary hypertension.\u201d Systolic failure occurs when the heart&#8217;s left ventricle fails to contract normally.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Cancer:<\/strong> A growing number of studies indicate that sildenafil citrate produced significantly improved results when used in combination with certain anticancer agents. In some cases, it\u2019s been suggested that sildenafil improves the immune system\u2019s ability to search out and destroy malignant cells. In a recent article in the online journal <a href=\"https:\/\/ecancer.org\/news\/13690-viagra-has-the-potential-to-be-used-as-a-treatment-for-rare-cancers.php\">ecancermedicalscience<\/a>, a researcher said that sildenafil and the active ingredients in other oral ED drugs were being studied for their ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier, which would help treat certain brain cancers.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Altitude sickness:<\/strong> Individuals who normally live and work at lower elevations sometimes suffer from altitude sickness when they travel to regions at extremely high elevation. Symptoms range in severity from nausea and profound fatigue to cerebral edema and hyperventilation. Although the evidence here is still somewhat equivocal, some have reported that sildenafil reduces the severity of these symptoms. It has also been shown to improve athletic performance in athletes accustomed to competing at lower elevations.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Raynaud\u2019s syndrome:<\/strong> Also known as Raynaud\u2019s phenomenon or Raynaud\u2019s disease, this disorder causes certain parts of the body &#8212; fingers and toes most often &#8212; to feel cold and numb.
