The company believes many men are being lured away from FDA-approved medications by cheap prices and exaggerated claims. In some cases consumers believe taking an herbal supplement is like taking \u201ca replacement medication\u201d and don\u2019t know about the possible side effects associated with these unregulated supplements.<\/p>\n

It’s easy to be confused about online claims.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cCounterfeits and clones shorten or circumvent the proper process of research and development often compromising efficacy, quality, and safety of drugs. There are other processes that can be used to produce\u00a0Sildenafil\u00a0but safety and efficacy of\u00a0Sildenafil\u00a0produced by alternative, substandard processes are unproven,\u201d James Wee, a senior medical manager for Pfizer, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Specific supplement targeted by FDA<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last summer the FDA issued a warning about a specific herbal supplement that claimed to treat erectile dysfunction. The government agency found hidden ingredients in the supplement called \u201cExntenZe<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis incident is an example of a growing trend of products marketed as dietary supplements or conventional foods with hidden drugs and chemicals,\u201d said Ilisa Bernstein, deputy director of the Office of Compliance in the FDA\u2019s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. \u201cThese types of products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, and body building, and are often represented as being \u2018all natural.\u2019 Consumers should exercise caution before purchasing products promoted for these uses.\u201d<\/p>\n
