The dreaded acne of teenage years may be difficult to control, but as an adult there are many things you can do to prevent and cure your acne.\u00a0 Below are 5 steps to prevent acne.<\/p>\n
Step 1: Wash Your Face<\/strong><\/p>\n Although some research shows that cleanliness is not directly related to acne, it is generally understood that having dirty skin provides a fertile environment for bacteria to grow.\u00a0 Dirt and excess oil on your skin causes clogged pores, which in turn leads to break-outs.\u00a0\u00a0 Try using a face wash that is specially formulated for acne treatment<\/p>\n Step 2: Apply Acne Medication<\/strong><\/p>\n For this step you should purchase an over-the-counter acne gel or cream containing benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide kills acne-causing bacteria in the pores and can help remove and prevent excess oil. After washing your face, take a small amount of the cream and massage lightly into the pores until it is no longer visible.<\/p>\n For more severe acne, you may want to visit a dermatologist for a prescription strength cream such as Retin-A.<\/p>\n Step 3: Use a Moisturizer Acne cleansers and medication often dry out the skin, so it becomes very important to usea high quality facial moisturizer.\u00a0 If you forget to use a moisturizer you will begin to notice your skin turning red after a few weeks, and it will eventually begin to peel.\u00a0 This can be easily prevented by using a light moisturizer after each time you wash and apply acne cream.\u00a0 Just be careful not to apply too much or it could actually cause more acne to appear.<\/p>\n Step 4: Exfoliate<\/strong><\/p>\n Once a week or so you will want to use an exfoliant to help scrub the dead skin cells from your face.\u00a0 Shaving does a great job of this for men on the cheek and jaw areas, but not the upper cheek and forehead.\u00a0 \u00a0An excess of dead skin cells can clog pores, trap bacteria and lead to break outs.
