The Telegraph<\/em> reported that more than $22 million in bogus or illegal erectile dysfunction pills<\/strong> were seized in 2017 from organized gangs in Britain.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a 980% increase over five years ago. The drugs were intercepted at ports and postal sorting facilities by UK Border Force officers, as well as at dealers\u2019 homes. The fake erectile dysfunction pills could be very dangerous\u2014even fatal.<\/p>\n

At the very least, they\u2019re probably ineffective at treating erectile dysfunction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The hope was that making Viagra readily available as an over-the-counter treatment in November 2017 in the UK would decrease the demand for fake Viagra<\/strong> and other fake erectile dysfunction pills. Obviously, that didn\u2019t shut down all the illegal operations. That could be because the demand for erectile dysfunction drugs<\/a>, including Viagra, is still so high. The Telegraph<\/em> reports that an estimated 20% of men in the UK has erectile dysfunction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Making Viagra easily available<\/h3>\n

Most of the unlicensed drugs that are seized in the UK come from India<\/strong>, including a pill and gel form of something called Kamagra<\/strong>, which isn\u2019t licensed to be sold in the UK.<\/p>\n

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) reported that although it shuts down more than 3,500 websites selling fake medicines each year<\/strong>, there is still a problem with erectile dysfunction pills because they\u2019re being sold alongside drugs like ecstasy and cocaine, which both can cause erectile dysfunction. Of course, men purchasing these so-called erectile dysfunction drugs<\/a> never know what they\u2019re really buying.<\/p>\n

Why there\u2019s still a market<\/h3>\n

\u201cMedicines purchased outside the regulated supply chain can be risky,\u201d<\/strong> said an MHRA spokeswoman. \u201cThere is no guarantee the products will be authorized medicines and no guarantee they meet standards of quality and safety. They may contain dangerous ingredients with devastating consequences to your health. Criminals have no interest in your health and well-being<\/strong>; they are only concerned with making money.\u201d<\/p>\n
