At a medical conference focused on counterfeiting, the makers of erectile dysfunction drug Viagra demanded that Jamaica take action against an epidemic of fake Viagra<\/a> circulating through the country.<\/p>\n

Although part of the problem is that individuals are selling fake Viagra, perhaps the bigger issue is that so are certain pharmacies.<\/p>\n

At least one man was reported to have died from taking the fake erectile dysfunction pills<\/strong>, and the level of trust in Jamaican pharmacies has decreased.<\/p>\n

Pfizer is encouraging Jamaicans to come forward when they find out that a person or pharmacy is selling the fake Viagra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we are saying if you know of a pharmacy or know of a person, you can just put it on a piece of paper,\u201d says Pfizer\u2019s security consultant Percival Jordan, \u201cand we will develop that in conjunction with the local authorities, and that\u2019s all we ask of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fake Viagra\u2014even at pharmacies<\/h3>\n

Unfortunately, many Jamaicans see the surge of fake Viagra<\/strong> as little more than a joke, despite the seriousness of the issue. One person went so far as to say that Jamaican men don\u2019t believe in erectile dysfunction<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Counter-terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch Assistant Superintendent of Police Victor Barrett said that Jamaican\u2019s love of the fake Viagra is nothing to laugh at.<\/p>\n

\u201cBuy from pharmacies that you have a long-standing relationship with,\u201d he advises. \u201cRead and trust your gut. Just be cautious when you are buying drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n

Viagra in the United States<\/h3>\n

Men with erectile dysfunction can get Viagra<\/strong> in the United States via a prescription from their medical provider.<\/p>\n

The FDA-approved erectile dysfunction drug requires a prescription for Viagra<\/strong> to ensure that what men get aren\u2019t tainted with toxins. Requiring men to see a doctor for Viagra also helps ensure that they discuss underlying health conditions that could be causing the erectile dysfunction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
