A doctor in Ansonia, Connecticut has been disciplined and fined $5,000 for several misjudgments in care, including prescribing excessive doses of opioids without documenting the need for the drugs and deviating from the standard of care in assessing and managing back pain, Type 2 diabetes and erectile dysfunction in patients.<\/p>\n

Dr. Joel Zaretsky has been permanently restricted from prescribing controlled substances for more than 15 days, except in acute cases. In addition, his medical license is on probation for 18 months.<\/p>\n

During this probationary period, Dr. Zaretsky is being required to have a doctor randomly review his patients\u2019 medical records.<\/p>\n

He also agreed to take courses in diagnosing and managing erectile dysfunction<\/a>, back pain, and Type 2 diabetes, although he wouldn\u2019t admit to any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

How to treat erectile dysfunction<\/h3>\n

Although all the details of Dr. Zaretsky\u2019s case haven\u2019t been disclosed, it\u2019s difficult to understand how a doctor would have trouble diagnosing and managing erectile dysfunction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There are currently several FDA-approved erectile dysfunction pills<\/a> on the market, including Viagra, which works for more than 80% of men. Perhaps it\u2019s possible that Dr. Zaretsky didn\u2019t prescribe Viagra<\/a>, or that he did but didn\u2019t review the patients\u2019 health first.<\/p>\n

After all, erectile dysfunction can be a symptom of underlying health problems<\/strong>, such as diabetes or high blood pressure.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also possible that he didn\u2019t review his patients\u2019 current medications before prescribing Viagra. Certain drugs can interfere with Viagra<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Men who take nitrates for chest pain or guanylate cyclase stimulators for pulmonary hypertension shouldn\u2019t take erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra because the combination can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure.<\/p>\n
